Musicville has been selected to be part of the premier season of the Children’s Musical Theater Festival, presented by the awesome people over at
The Broadway Workshop. Only two shows were selected from over 100 submissions.
What does this mean?
It means that on the 3rd week of July, 16 talented young actors from around the country will work for a week with some of Broadway’s leading artists on
Musicville, culminating in two public performances
July 23rd and 24th in Manhattan. Full details are below.
So great to see an organization committed to supporting new musical theatre for young performers – something we’re deeply passionate about.
Here’s what Marc Tumminelli, founder of Broadway Workshop and CMTF artistic director, had to say:
“We are thrilled by the musicals for this year’s Festival. We selected these shows from over 100 new musical submissions for their entertaining and educational value. This high number shows a great need in our industry to create opportunities that nurture the next generation of great writers while building a repertoire of exciting new, family-friendly musicals. I’m proud that CMTF is doing its part.”
Musicville will be presented alongside another original work,
Like you Like It: The Musical, a retelling of Shakespeare’s
As You Like set in a 1980’s high school. I know the writers,
Daniel S. Acquisto & Sammy Buck, from the BMI Workshop – great guys and great writers.
Both shows are performed by 44 aspiring young actors, ages 10-17, who were selected to participate in CMTF’s week-long educational program, which includes five days of rehearsals, special workshops, informational seminars and Q&A sessions with industry guests and top Broadway actors. Tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis, starting July 1st at
www.cmtfnyc.com.
Hope to see you there!
