Chasing the Sky is a 50-minute musical built around a deceptively simple theatrical premise: a young boy on the verge of giving up his dream listens as his uncle spins a story…and that story swallows the stage. About the Show
Music & Lyrics by DENVER CASADO
Book by DENVER CASADO & KERRY KAZMIEROWICZTRIMM
Based on the book The Journey of the Noble Gnarble by DANIEL ERRICO
Chasing the Sky is a contemporary new musical that celebrates the message of perseverance and overcoming obstacles, no matter how daunting they may seem.
Meet Anthony, an eight-year-old with a passion for soccer, on the verge of giving up his dream due to bullies at his soccer camp. One day Anthony reunites with his Uncle, a master storyteller, who weaves a captivating tale of a Gnarble – a tiny, brave fish with a dream to travel from the depths of the ocean to see the sky. Along the way, the Gnarble encounters a cast of sea creatures who challenge her resolve, yet cannot quell her unwavering spirit.
As the story unfolds, Anthony and his Uncle find themselves inspired by the Gnarble’s courage, drawing motivation to face their own hurdles and ultimately forging an unbreakable bond.
Chasing the Sky is an immersive experience that intertwines modern-day storytelling with the whimsical underwater world of the Gnarble, set to a breath-taking score that will leave audiences humming long after the performance is over.
This extraordinary journey reminds you that even the smallest of creatures can have the biggest impact – and that dreams are worth chasing, no matter the challenges that stand in your way.

Wojciech Kępczyński (General Manager of Roma Musical Theatre, Warsaw, Poland) –
I absolutely love Chasing the Sky—but what is more important, our audiences love it and it shows during every single performance. And the best testimony is that now, one year after the opening, we have extended the license for two more seasons. This show is a great opportunity to introduce kids to the world of theatre and a clever way of engaging them through the story itself, music and songs. Denver and Kerry’s concept works on many levels. If you are a parent and you would like to broaden your children’s horizons, develop their cognitive skills and just have good fun during the process, it is a perfect fit.
Benjamin Yates, Artistic Director(Emmaus Theatricals) –
Producing Chasing the Sky was one of the most rewarding theatrical experiences I’ve had. From the very beginning, the support we received from Beat by Beat was extraordinary — every detail was handled with care, generosity, and trust. The show itself is a gem. The score is rich and uplifting, and the book has real depth and substance — something I rarely find in new work for young audiences. It’s a story that speaks to any age, with themes of perseverance, imagination, and finding your voice that connected with every person in the room.
Our performances were packed, with families, children, and even the original author in the audience. He was deeply moved by the way his story was honored and framed within the show. That moment alone spoke volumes about the care that went into crafting this piece. Our cast and creative team fell in love with the material, and many of us left saying we could happily do this show again and again.
What’s more, the show is wonderfully designed for portability. With minimal set pieces, simple props, and the high-quality tracks provided, it’s easy to stage in schools, theaters, community centers, or libraries — without ever sacrificing impact. It’s contained, flexible, and yet feels expansive in the world it creates. The audience response confirmed what I felt from the start: this is a truly special addition to the TYA landscape.
I can’t thank Denver, Linda, and the entire Beat by Beat team enough for creating something so beautiful and supporting us every step of the way. This was the best licensing experience I could have imagined, and I know we’ll be back for whatever TYA titles they release in the future.
