Melissa G. – Waters Landing Elementary School (Germantown, MD) –
I have directed our drama productions for the past 13 years, and I have never had a cast SO enthusiastic to perform a show before! From the very beginning, they were engaged with every aspect of putting the show together. They liked the story, but were totally hooked when they heard the music! This was also a first for us and made this show such an amazing experience for the kids and the adults involved! In the past, I have ordered from several other drama companies for our elementary drama club productions. It was a very tedious process to order a perusal script and rarely did I find a company who provided audio samples of the music. I was so happy to find Beat by Beat Press through a generic Google search! Every experience I had with your company, from the customer service I received to the delivery of the production kit, was BY FAR the most positive, professional, efficient experience I have had, ever. The production kit was comprehensive; it included everything a director could hope to have in a director edition and actor script, and the fact that the actor edition of the script was also an electronic copy made it easy to print exactly the number of scripts that we needed. Our young actors, ever the eager thespians, loved that the soundtrack was available online to help them rehearse songs at home. In fact, after the show I was asked by many students what next year’s show will be already. I look forward to choosing next year’s production and seeing what new, fresh shows you will be writing in the future. Thank you so much for sharing your talents with every new generation of actors!
Emily K. – Reed Elementary School (San Jose, CA) –
Many parents and teachers commented that The Grunch was their favorite of all the musicals we have done. As for me, I loved the comedy, the catchy melodies, and especially the positive message and emotions that all of us were steeped in for weeks throughout the rehearsal period. Your heart-warming musical brought out the best in all of us, and we were proud to share such an uplifting story with our friends and families. I am deeply grateful to all of you at Beat by Beat Press for providing our school with the quality material with which to create exactly the kind of empowering theatrical experiences that we most want to share with our students!
Jason M. – Cayuga Heights Elementary School (Depew, NY) –
Our performances of The Grunch were smashingly successful! The students absolutely loved the show and the audience simply ate it up! As one who has spent countless hours desperately hunting for an elementary musical with any resemblance of quality either in the music or drama, I cannot commend you highly enough for your brilliant work in writing this show! It was so refreshing to work with a product of such high quality! The music captivated the students from the very beginning and the engaging story line made the staging of the show both entertaining and just plain fun! Thank you for creating this show! And at the risk of sounding like I am begging – Please write more!!!! ?
Michelle M. – StageKids (Wenatchee, WA) –
The kids and I absolutely love the lyrics and the message. This plot and the words they sing are life-changing. I know my kids will be leaving with a sense of pride for what they’ve accomplished!
Jennifer Y. – Oak Hills Elementary (Beaverton, OR) –
Oak Hills Elementary PTO opened our production of “The Grunch” last night to two very full houses. Everyone who came adored the show! Thank you so much for all you do to help us expose our kids to the arts at young ages. “The Grunch” is such a sweet love letter to the theatre…ALL aspects of it! Not only a great production for kids, but also a fantastic way to emphasize why it is we do what we do. We ARE all part of the magic!!!
Judy R. – Larmenier Catholic Primary School (Launceston, TAS, Australia) –
We had so much fun preparing and performing The Grunch! It was certainly the best musical we have ever done in my ten years at Larmenier School. It was performed by our four Primary classes (Grades 3 – 6) and they were very excited when I told them about your email. Thank you again and we look forward to using more of your musicals in the future
Tracey G. – Attic Community Theatre (Santa Ana, CA) –
Thank you for Monsters and The Grunch. I have choreographed both shows for The Attic and LOVED being inspired by your music which allowed me to teach them about Bob Fosse, Hal Prince and legendary choreographers. Keep up the great work! The music in THE GRUNCH is especially beautiful and everytime “All Part of the Magic” is sung by our 3 girls, I cry.
Claire S. – Town Hall Kids (Ontario, Canada) –
You’re refreshingly unDisney ? The songs were unbelievably (and instantly!) engaging, and the kids sang them with gusto! many of the parents and audience members remarked that they couldn’t (and still can’t) get the songs out of their heads! it was such a fun show (in which every cast member starred!) with loads of heart; a dramatic expression of the core philosophy of town hall kids! thanks again for creating that lovely story and making it available!
Leigh D. – Reed Elementary School (San Jose, CA) –
Huge thanks to everyone at Beat by Beat Press for creating such a fantastic show! We have really loved working on The Grunch–the great music, the humor, and the heart have made this a very special three months.
Nichole S. – Gold Camp Elementary (Colorado Springs, CO) –
I expanded the cast and solos (reassigned parts and added maybe 20 lines) so that 75 kids spoke and/or sang solo. Every one of them LOVED the show and felt truly engaged and important. YEAH!! Thanks for the amazing show. Everyone loved it!! Can’t wait to try another BBB Press show!
Amanda B. – Good Sam Arts (Tallahassee, FL) –
I can NOT say enough about how fabulous our experience has been dealing with Beat by Beat Press! Not only is the quality of the music and the writing stellar – having searched high and low for appropriate elementary level musicals, I have NEVER found one this good – the customer service has been impeccable as well. We will be working with them again!
Alissa R. – Creative Dramatics (Kirkwood, MO) –
I am a drama teacher at a private school and run an intense theater camp in the summer. Every time I choose a play by a different publisher I am disappointed. The Beat by Beat shows allow all kids to shine and create opportunities for differentiated instruction. Plus I enjoy directing them. Weeks after the shows I am still humming the songs.
Katrina P. – Perth Youth Theatre (Wembley, WA, Australia) –
Great service. Great website. Awesome scripts! Thanks for providing our younger performers with brilliant shows that are fun, have clever songs and are truly entertaining to direct and watch!
Jenny S. – Nazareth Intermediate School (Nazareth, PA) –
Absolutely love this company!! I have directed The Grunch and we are currently in production of Space Pirates! Love the shows and the company.
Amy P. – Calhoun Elementary School (Calhoun, GA) –
It was an AMAZING show, and I have had nothing but rave reviews!
Nora M. – Farmingville Elementary School (Ridgefield, CT) –
WOW WOW WOW!!!! We had our production of The Grunch last night and WOW! The reviews were astounding. “Best play EVER” was heard again and again, and again! Thank you to BBB – we had so much fun learning and producing this musical. It was so AMAZING!!! Looking forward to choosing another for next year.
Ronda O. – Woodland Middle School (Woodland, WA) –
We just closed our run of “The Grunch” last night, and what a reception!! Audiences loved it! Thank you so much for the ease of use and production for this first-time musical director! The students had a blast, and it was so well received. I know this is an older play, but still so relevant and appealing. Thank you for all you do!
Sarah S. – The Cherryville Little Theatre (Cherryville, NC) –
I just wanted to let you know that we had such a fantastic experience doing The Grunch! The kids did amazing and all enjoyed the show! The show was so unique and the songs were genuinely fantastic! Many of our actors had the songs memorized before we even auditioned! They also loved learning about all the little references to other musicals and aspects of theatre within the script and songs.
It’s apparent that this show was written and put together by people with experience working in settings like this. We all loved how each Theatre Kid had their own character, personalities and interests–as opposed to some shows where it seems like all the kids characters are interchangeable.
I also loved how the transition music between scenes were so consistent and appropriate! So many shows have some tracks that are long enough and others that are far too short! The kids learned how to do their own tech for the most part, and they had no issues hitting their marks in time!
We all also loved the inclusion of characters that were part of the tech crew and them having their own song, that was such a meaningful part of the show.
I loved how the scripts were organized with the music exactly where they needed it and the information at the beginning!
And of course I can’t thank you enough for always being so quick to respond, being so professional and accommodating. From sending me the high quality graphic to use to allowing us to use the vocal tracks for a song for our promotions all before buying the rights was so appreciated and unexpected! And the affordability for a show as good as this is amazing.
I can’t say enough good things about you, this show and Beat By Beat Press, I will definitely be browsing your shows when looking for future productions and will tell other directors and teachers I know!
Gary S. – Holy Cross Lutheran School – (Indianapolis, IN) –
This is my last show as I’m retiring at the end of 43 years of teaching! I couldn’t have picked a better one to give my students! It has been so much fun. Our first musical here for our school and such a joy. Mostly watching their faces and seeing the fun they have had getting ready. Today is nothing but, “I can’t wait for tonight, Mr. S Clair!” (Honestly, I can’t either.) Thank you for writing and giving us a wonderful show. Our school talent is really shining through The Grunch!
Allan Y. – Danbury Catholic School (Danbury, IA) –
We did The Grunch last year and my principal said it was the best program she has ever seen done at our school. The kids (5th and 6th graders) were bawling backstage after our performance…..didn’t want it to be over. I teach elementary music in a little Catholic school….am a retired Band Director. The tools and guidance with your musical were absolutely everything I needed. I love how many parts there are I gave out minor parts to students down through 3rd grade.
Cindy H. – Sullivan West CSD (Callicoon, NY) –
It was spectacular. My background is not in drama, but we were able to pull off a performance with fabulous reviews thanks to all you offer in your comprehensive production kit and your responsiveness to my questions. The Grunch could not have gone any better. Thank you for all you do for small drama groups like ours.
Jennifer P. – Kids on Stage (Villa Hills, KY) –
We have done 3 of your shows, The Grunch, Twas the Week Before Christmas and The Noble Gnarble…all of them well received by kids and parents. The most requested show we get us The Grunch, because its so “Broadway-ish”. I would love to see more shows like this…especially for the Middle School and up age group
Leigh Ann C. – Forsyth Academy of Performing Arts (Cumming, GA) –
Thanks for making the process so easy to navigate. We had a great experience doing The Grunch last year and our kids are excited about another BBB production. We were nervous to try a musical that wasn’t from one of the (ahem) “big guys”, but we were blown away by the response our kids gave the Grunch and their audiences enjoyed it as well. It was a great fit for the level of our kids and the show length and ability levels matched up so well with what we’re trying to teach our kids. You guys are doing a great job…keep up the good work!
Michelle M. – Stage Kids (Wenatchee, WA) –
The kids and I absolutely love the lyrics, the message, I have 35 kids in the show and Half of them are new to our program. This plot and the words they sing are life-changing. I know my kids will be leaving with a sense of pride for what they’ve accomplished in one week!
Chris C. – Ooltewah Middle School (Ooltewah, TN) –
The kids love the music. I love how flexible the script is and how helpful Beat by Beat has been.
Rachel G. – Hawes and Moffett Elementary School (Huntington Beach, CA) –
I’ve done “The Grunch” and “Press Start” from your collection and I am always blown away by the music. One of my biggest struggles in my first few years of teaching was finding a production that was affordable ( we don’t have a ‘music’ budget), accessible for 4th and 5th graders, and had decent music. I tend to program modern music that gets the kids excited – and there are so many productions out there that are outdated or too cheesy. When I found your website, it was a total game changer! The music from The Grunch was so catchy, weaved in some recognizable musical theater melodies, and had a great, appropriate message for my kiddos! Since then, I’ve programmed a musical from your site every year.
