The dragon is back in town! Well… not really. That’s the story a ragtag band of innkeepers makes up, desperate to draw questing heroes to the struggling Dancing Dragon Inn. Soon the inn is full of unexpected guests, from an army of princesses out to prove their bravery, to a group of overwhelmed heroes trying to hold onto their fame. But what happens if they all discover the innkeepers’ dragon story is made up? Could there be more than one way to save the day? An epic folk-rock score brings magic to this funny, heartfelt fantasy musical.

ISOBEL: Innkeeper of the Dancing Dragon Inn. She’s determined to take care of the inn she inherited from her beloved grandfather, and everyone in it.
THE BARDS: Entertainers who sing and tell stories at the inn.
ROBIN (BARD): loves entertaining people. Has a big imagination and big ideas.
STARLING (BARD): has a flair for the dramatic, loves the spotlight. Clever.
LARK (BARD): has boundless energy, gets really excited easily.
THE COOKS: Talented chefs who are famous for their delicious stew.
CHEF BASIL: makes amazing food, though sometimes gets a little frazzled in the kitchen.

Casting Note:
All of the roles in Imagine a Dragon are gender-flexible and may be played by anyone. The Heroes and Princesses don’t need to be grouped by gender – it’s more about their jobs as fierce fighters and fancy royals, and what people expect of them because of those roles.
The Bill Collector is a role that’s important to the story, but since he/she only appears onstage at the end, this might be a good role to make a fun cameo (for example a teacher or another community member). Another option would be to have the actor who plays the Bill Collector double as a member of the Princesses or Heroes in the other scenes, so he/she can participate in more of the show.
Feel free to add additional members of any group (Bards, Guards, Cooks, Heroes, Princesses) who join in the songs. If you need more characters to have speaking roles, feel free to split up any character’s lines between two actors (other than Isobel).
